I’m placing the blog on indefinite hiatus. Three reasons.
It turns out that my time is not infinite. Working full-time, plus being enrolled part-time at Georgia Tech, plus dad things, equals little time for writing fully formed blog posts. Add my new advisory gig at DARPA and the plate is full. (I had hoped I could mentally transition to just writing smaller/less formed things, but my brain is wired for perfectionism…I’m in therapy, honest.)
A few of my posts came to the attention of some senior people within my organization, which reached out for a conversation. We had a cordial discussion about the appropriateness of senior military officers posting candid commentary on current events, even when explicitly marked as personal. While unintended, the possibility for inadvertent or willful misinterpretation is there, and that could lead to problems.
Tyler Cowen pointed out a recent paper that showed that businesses using “trust words” in their 10-K filings have worse outcomes. Oops. Names are hard, okay?
I’m still thinking and writing when time permits, just moving to different venues. If I do return to writing public blogs/newsletter content, I’ll send out more at that time. If you want to get in touch privately, email is open, or connect with me on LinkedIn or X/Twitter.
